Agility Cuts Cedar Creek Wholesale Inventory Inaccuracies by 70%
Cedar Creek Wholesale, a building materials distributor, recently brought all of its 11 branches live on DMSi’s Agility software platform. Since 1994, Cedar Creek had run DMSi’s legacy software, DMS+. They chose Agility because of its features and powerful technology, but ultimately because they had such a positive relationship with DMSi. “The enhanced accounting features as well as the software being windows-based were very important to us,” Cedar Creek’s IT Director, Alex Averitt said. “But, the primary reason we went with the software was because of how well we worked with DMSi.”
Since moving to Agility, Cedar Creek has seen many improvements ranging from overall information visibility to their outside sales reps, better processes for administrative functions and vast improvements in their inventory management. “We have definitely seen measurable results as far as inventory accuracy,” Averitt added. “Our first branch on Agility has been live since November of 2008 and they have seen a 70 percent reduction overall in inventory variances. It is pretty substantial.”
By having a better managed inventory, Cedar Creek is able to have confidence in the system and can improve their customer service. “Well one thing is for sure; having more accurate inventory keeps you from making a commitment you can’t keep. So there is definitely a benefit to our customers on that side of it,” Averitt said.
With Agility, Cedar Creek can perform more extensive cycle counting procedures. “We use the cycle counting procedure on a regular basis, “Averitt explained. “In Agility, as long as you have resolved your tickets and you have accounted for what is staged and loaded, you can exclude those from a cycle count and you can perform a cycle count in a short period of time at anytime you want to.”
Cedar Creek has tapped into Agility to streamline processes in every way they can. To further improve efficiency, DMSi has added functionality to Agility at Cedar Creek’s request. By modifying how Agility handles linked purchase orders in a pick file, DMSi was able to solve Cedar Creek’s issues with back hauls. “There have been a couple of features that we requested DMSi modify; things that we used to have to go outside of the business software for, whether it be Excel or something else. DMSi has been able to integrate those processes into Agility and, in the process, eliminate the human error factor.”
