Highland Lumber Sales Completes Agility Implementation
Omaha, NE – As a manufacturer and distributor of shutter components and lumber products, Highland Lumber Sales recently implemented DMSi’s Agility software. Since opening in 1991, the Anaheim, CA, company has established another branch, Anaheim Mills. The new branch manufactures exclusively for Highland Lumber. With Agility’s inventory visibility, control, and tracking capabilities, Highland Lumber more effectively manages their lumber company.
Highland Lumber moved from a manual process to a completely automated system in Agility. Prior to Agility, sales orders were handwritten and inventory information was manually collected from a spreadsheet. At the end of each month, the handwritten tickets were given to an outside accountant to reconcile. With Agility, inventory is updated in real-time as transactions are performed. “The time we save in Agility is equivalent to one person’s job,” explains Dan LoBue, Highland Lumber system manager. “Access to up-to-the-minute inventory information allowed us to reassign about 40 hours a week to tasks other than paperwork.”
Since Agility was Highland Lumber’s first software system, many employees had little or no computer experience. However, they were able to make an easy transition and appreciated its results. “We researched a few software systems and learned that Agility was the most simple to use, while meeting our inventory and reman needs,” adds LoBue. “Now we can track a piece of lumber from day one through the reman process without manually digging through files.”
