Agility Empowers Pyramid Interior Distributors
Since starting with Pyramid Interior Distributors in spring of 2008, corporate controller Garry Condrey knew that his company needed a better inventory management system. At the time, their current system, Munix, was not meeting their needs and Condrey didn’t feel secure about the system.
“Munix was very antiquated, “Condrey said. “It was unix based and not point and click. It was character driven and you had to know the code to get anything done.”
To find a suitable replacement for Munix, the full-service commercial and residential building materials distributor out of Memphis, TN, sought help from their trade association, the Drake Group. After a good recommendation from the Drake Group, Pyramid Interior Distributors contacted DMSi Software. By August of 2008, Pyramid Interior Distributors made the decision to implement DMSi’s Agility. “It was so much easier and user friendly than our old system, Munix,” Condrey said. “That is what got us started, and after that, we signed the papers and off we went.”
It has now been a year since Pyramid Interior Distributors has implemented Agility, and they are enjoying the measurable results and competitive advantage. “There are just a lot of things that the software allows us to do to be more efficient,” Condrey explained. “It seems like we are busier now than we used to be because we can now attack things we couldn’t before. Things are moving faster now.”
Specifically, Pyramid Interior Distributors has seen a big gain on productivity that has allowed them to maintain a stronghold in an economically challenging market.” Because of the flexibility of the software and our ability to do more with it, we have actually reduced our accounting staff by two people,” Condrey said. The company has also noticed a great difference in how day-to-day operations are handled. “The amount of filing we do has been greatly reduced since we are now scanning delivery tickets. The way we used to do invoices is now much simpler,” Condrey added. “We went from 16 file cabinets to six.”
With day-to-day operations and productivity improving, it isn’t surprising that Pyramid Interior Distributors has also seen a gain on profitability. “We are doing a better job of managing profit margins because of the Agility profitability report that shows the previous day’s deliveries,” Condrey said. “In the beginning, it was really interesting because it showed the branch managers products we were missing and delivery charges that weren’t added.”
Running Agility in a hosted format, or Software as a Service (SaaS) allows the Pyramid Interior Distributors to utilize all of the functionalities of the software, but over the Internet, therefore eliminating the need for on-site servers and hardware. “Our guys really like that they can log on to the system to check an order or inventory from wherever they are at in the world,” Condrey explained. “The fact that they can be anywhere and get to Agility helps us feel really connected.”
In a year’s time, Pyramid Interior Distributors went from a system that was bringing their company down, to a system that fully integrated all processes and allowed them to run better in all capacities. “Our guys are still learning, but as they are using the system more, they are finding they are more empowered,” Condrey said. “Now, the information is in Agility, and I don’t have to go to someone with technical knowledge to run a report. I can do it myself."
