DMSi Software’s Big Milestone in WMS
In the first half of 2011 DMSi Software brought seven Agility customers live on Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). The customers, Boise Cascade Building Materials (Boise, ID), Building Products, Inc. (Watertown, SD), Eastern Aluminum Supply Co. (Goldsboro, NC), Kohl Building Products (Reading, PA), OneTree Distribution (Syracuse, NY), Texas Plywood & Lumber Co. (Grand Prairie, TX) and Wurth Wood Group (Charlotte, NC), are already seeing signs of how WMS is transforming their warehouse operations. “WMS was implemented to improve two areas—operational processes and inventory accuracy,” Texas Plywood & Lumber Co.’s Vice President of Systems and Quality, Missy Isom said. “We have seen operational processes streamlined and inventory accuracy has increased due to how WMS allows storage tracking and inventory processing.”
Fully integrated with DMSi’s comprehensive ERP system, Agility, WMS provides real-time system direction and complete management of warehouse activities. The system is offered with Majure Data and is a building materials industry-focused solution that increases productivity and inventory accuracy. “We chose WMS to improve efficiencies and accuracy to better service our customers and control costs,” Wurth Wood Group’s IT Manager, Theresa Liscinsky said. “And just in the short time, it has.”
Using a wireless handheld device with Majure Data's RF Navigator technology, WMS delivers powerful real-time information and significantly improves productivity. “Productivity improves when tasks are outlined in the RF Navigator wireless handheld,” Isom explained. “Employees do not have to decide what is more important or most needed, WMS decides that for them.” WMS also gives management level employees more control of activities using the RF Navigator Dashboard. “Management can get a clear picture of activities, and employees know they are being tracked,” Isom added. “The behaviors of employees change when they realize they are being watched and analyzed.”
In just the short amount of time, these seven companies are experiencing great improvements from WMS. “The reorganization of processes because of WMS has resulted in all resources – money, man and machine to be utilized to its optimum level,” Isom said.
Looking toward the future, WMS will bring significant improvements in operational processes, productivity and inventory accuracy. “We are able to cycle count our inventory four times with hopes that our auditors will allow us to discontinue our yearly full physical inventory,” Liscinsky described. “We hope that with WMS, we will be able to increase our volume with the existing staff.”
